12월 10, 2025, Ruine Schnabelburg
From the north, a relatively easy, clearly visible, unmarked path leads to the plateau on which Schnabelburg Castle stands. The descent to the south is very steep and, when the ground is wet and/or covered in autumn leaves, also very slippery.

The Albis chain is a striking, largely forested mountain ridge that runs parallel to the Sihl and Lake Zurich from Sihlbrugg to Urdorf / Schlieren. It is flanked by two valleys, the Sihl valley in the east and the Reppisch valley in the west. The eastern flank of the Albis is steep, characterized by ridges, deep ditches and numerous streams. It is geomorphologically extremely active, sparsely populated and largely covered by the Sihl forest. The western side is less steep and has an unusually strong interweaving of forest and grassland on steep slopes for the Central Plateau. Here, the interaction between site conditions and human use has led to diverse, sometimes rare habitats.

The Albis lies between the Sihl Valley in the east and the Reppisch Valley and the Aeugster Valley with the Türlersee in the west. The mountain ridge is followed by the district border between the Affoltern district in the west and the Horgen district and the city of Zurich on the east and northeast sides.

I would only recommend the northern approach. From the southeast and west it is extremely steep and slippery

9월 4, 2022, Pfäffikersee Circular Trail
Pfäffikersee circular route no. 890 The popular circular route around Lake Pfäffikersee in the Zurich Oberland leads through unique nature with typical moor plants, past the romantic farming village of Seegräben and back to the pulsating lake promenade of Pfäffikon ZH. The starting point is Pfäffikon ZH, where you are just a stone's throw away in the middle of an enchanting lakeside landscape. A comfortable path leads past high reed belts and magnificent moorland landscapes, which provide a habitat for countless animal and plant species. Along the way you can catch a particularly attractive view of the nature reserve from pretty wooden walkways. A very special eye-catcher is the farming village of Seegräben, which you can see, gently embedded in the intact nature. With the half-timbered houses typical of the region, the place offers a romantic view and takes the viewer back to earlier times. The wide meadows sway peacefully in the wind and on the lake side the variety of aquatic plants and local animals is impressive. For a relaxing break, there are both cozy places in nature and restaurants along the route. A detour to the signposted adventure farm is also worthwhile. After the village of Auslikon, the stately Roman fort appears on the horizon as another eye-catcher before you reach Pfäffikon ZH again - showered by the natural experience. Ruins are always a highlight, even if they consist only of very small walls, as is the case here. Several benches invite you to take a break, and there's even an official fire pit (please refrain from using the unofficial ones to avoid endangering the ruins). The narrow paths leading to Schnabelburg Castle are an experience in themselves.

Certainly a highlight for "ruins enthusiastic" hikers.

The Albis is a mountain range in the canton of Zurich. The Albis is a mountain range in the canton of Zurich, running parallel to the Sihl River and Lake Zurich for approximately 22 kilometers from Sihlbrugg in the south to Urdorf/Schlieren near Zurich in the north. The Albis lies between the Sihl Valley in the east and the Reppisch Valley and the Aeugster Valley with Lake Türlersee in the west. The mountain ridge is followed by the district border between the Affoltern district in the west and the Horgen district and the city of Zurich on the east and northeast sides. The Sihlzopf above Sihlbrugg forms the southernmost prominent elevation, and Zurich's local mountain, the Uetliberg, forms the northern end of the ridge. The highest point of the mountain range is the Bürglen in the southern section at 914.6 m above sea level; the most famous point is the Uetliberg at 870.6 m above sea level. The eastern flank of the Albis is largely covered by the Sihlwald forest, is often steep and characterized by ridges and deep erosion ditches, such as the Fallätsche in the Rütschlibach catchment area. The western flank is less steep and partly meadowland. Numerous short streams, steep in the upper reaches, drain the mountain area to the Sihl and Reppisch rivers. The Sihl valley separates the Zimmerberg from the Albis. Text / Source: Wikipedia https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albis

Name of the Albis Range The Kappel am Albis Monastery was founded in the Middle Ages. The Cistercian monks wore white albs. For a time, such "white brothers" lived on the mountain range above, known at the time as "Albi" (=the Whites). This is where the name of the mountain range comes from: the Albis Range.
