A very pretty, medieval town where we warmed ourselves up with coffee and nut pastries at the Hauser bakery on a foggy October day.

Estavayer-le-Lac is a true jewel on Lake Neuchâtel. The charming medieval town offers a unique mix of history and nature. Narrow streets, beautiful half-timbered houses and the imposing Chenaux Castle give Estavayer-le-Lac its special character.

Simply a great bike tour, but only if the visibility is very good. Aarberg is a wonderful place to linger.

Small medieval town to visit on foot but also by bike

The extent (area and quantity) of the sights cannot be listed or described in detail here. You have to see them and ideally plan a whole day to get even a rudimentary impression of the Roman-era facilities. But the old town of Avenches is also worth a visit. It is beautifully decorated and offers a lot to feast your eyes on and to quench your hunger and thirst. It goes without saying that the view of the Jura and the lakes is great (ideally from the castle courtyard), the town was certainly built on the hill...back then, less for the view (or perhaps precisely because of that)!
