This is the toughest mountain pass in the province. Its western slope is fairly homogeneous in terms of slopes, always around 7%. On the other hand, the southern slope is longer and more irregular, with several demanding kilometres and long breaks, becoming easier at the end. This slope is also very scenic.

The road is in perfect condition and well signposted, with little traffic. It is advisable to stock up on water, since there is no fountain along the way and there is very little shade.

San Calixto is a small town in the natural setting of the Sierra de Hornachuelos. There is a monastery of the order of Las Carmelitas Descalzas del Tardón. To get to San Calixto you have to ascend a 15 km pass with gentle slopes and some rest areas. The environment is beautiful, there are few cars and the road is in perfect condition.
