Moraine has many rock gardens and dare I say boulder fields on the black diamond trails. If you like technical features this place is for you. Some of the gardens would require some real skill and power. I rode in March after a brief shower on a short travel XC rig. The rocks were pretty slick under my shoes but my wheels still had grip. I lacked the confidence to tackle many of them (riding alone). Most were pretty short and easy to hike a bike around. I’d love to come back with flat pedals and dry conditions and my knee/elbow pads.

A year-round destination, and run by Butler County Parks and Recreation, historic Alameda Park spans over 400 acres and welcomes thousands of visitors annually. The park features a massive playground, 12 shelters, and over 11 miles of Single Track bike trails built to IMBA standards. For those who don't mind sharing the trails with mountain bikers, it's a fantastic multi-use area and one of the closest hiking spots to Butler.

Moon Lake State Forest Natural Area is a beautiful outdoor playground for nature lovers. The multi-use trails are a hotspot for mountain biking, with plenty of trails for hiking. There is a beautiful lake teeming with trout in the park's center, several campgrounds, and open fields with lots of wildflowers. It's a fantastic location, offering something for everyone.

Smeagol, also listed as the ALT Trail, is a green-rated trail that follows the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek through some wooded areas. This trail can get busier but leads bikers to the Harmony Hill Nature Area, which has a great variety of green, blue, and black trails, something for everyone.

With picnic benches and plenty of space around the water's edge, Laurel Lake is a great spot to take a break off of the bike. A lovely spot for a picnic.

The Wildlands Conservancy South Mountain Preserve spans 350 acres of woodland, featuring hard-packed dirt trails with some rocky sections throughout. This area is home to a wide variety of birds, so keep a lookout for them as you explore the trails.

Boyce Park is a great place for mountain biking, with around 28 miles of single track trails and a few gravel roads. Most of the trails are green and blue grade. Although during the winter, downhill skiing and snow tubing are popular. The name of the park stems from William Boyce who was the founder of the Boy Scouts and born nearby.
