Sleeping in Burgdorf Castle? Yes, it's possible, and you can do so in the youth hostel. It's actually located in the castle itself! The rooms within the old walls have been skillfully designed in a modern style, creating a cozy atmosphere. There are various room sizes (double, family, four-, and six-bed rooms), a restaurant, and as a guest, you can even visit the castle museum for free. Very nicely located, the whole complex is well-kept and simply beautiful. The water in the moat looks almost "Maldivian" in color:-)

Trachselwald Castle cannot be reached by public transport. Entry is free. But be careful! Trachselwald is not wheelchair accessible. Although parts such as the keep, the castle courtyard and the castle garden are open to the public, caution is still required when entering the keep. Enter at your own risk! warns a sign. And rightly so. The wooden steps are a bit worn and the last part below the top of the tower consists of a stone and extremely narrow spiral staircase passage with some high steps that only has space for one person. People with a tendency towards claustrophobia or hikers with backpacks will have a hard time. Crossing the stairs is impossible. But you are rewarded with a great view.

Even if you don't immediately notice it in the small, pretty green, mossy house that seems to be half-sunk into the ground, it is, or rather "it was" the forerunner of today's refrigerator. Blocks of ice that were transported from far away were also stored here. An absolute luxury of the extra class that was only available to the privileged upper class.

Very nice road, a few farms and very, very rarely traffic! Great for learning to ride a bike with children or just having fun and enjoying the scenery!

Burgdorf Castle is a nice destination for a picnic with a perfect view of Burgdorf, but you have to work for the view first!

(Not to be confused with Trachselwald Castle nearby!) The sleep lock is in the tower. We stayed and had breakfast well and cheaply. Next to the castle is a mini brewery www.proBIERmi.ch and a farm with calf rearing.
