The Theikenmeer is an important nature reserve in northern Germany. It has received international recognition for its biodiversity and its outstanding restoration efforts. The NABU Foundation is permanently preserving over 61.5 hectares of this area for nature conservation.

The path from the car park at the Theikenmeer Nature and Geopark Station to the Bernhard Grzimek Tower is paved and compacted throughout, so that the tower can also be reached with a stroller or wheelchair. The steps of the tower itself are made of gratings. This could be a challenge for people with a fear of heights, but since the tower is very stable, it should be doable for everyone - and there are only 26 steps to the viewing platform. 💪

This is the place for anyone who likes straight lines. The ditch, the path, the landscape – everything is straight. Almost artistic.

From here you can admire the beautiful Wehmer Dose with its impressive, rewetted raised moor areas in the north. -My favorite spot- But if you turn around, you can also discover the picturesque Theikenmeer in the south.

The tour was very varied despite its manageable length. I can recommend it at any time of year. The last time I was there (October 2024) the hiking trails were in top condition. The grass was mown and most of the wet spots were easy to pass. I have to give a big compliment to the hard-working spirits.
