The Almodóvar del Campo Lagoon is a unique natural and geological feature located in the province of Ciudad Real, within the Campo de Calatrava region, famous for its volcanic landscapes. It is a lagoon formed in the crater of a volcano after a phreatomagmatic eruption (interaction between magma and groundwater). This type of lagoon is called a maar.

In the Alcudia Valley, we find the town of Almodóvar del Campo, built on the slopes of a volcano, so prevalent in the Campo de Calatrava region, whose crater is now a lagoon. The Moorish influence is the most emblematic of the town, leaving behind the memory of the Castle and, above all, the incomparable Parish Church of Our Lady of the Assumption. There, one can see the first videomapping projection in Spain permanently installed in an enclosed space, depicting the life and work of Saint John of Ávila.

It is a small municipality located in a small valley of the Tirteafuera River, a tributary of the Guadiana, and is surrounded by small mountain ranges next to the Calatrava Massif. In addition, within its municipal area, there are volcanic outcrops and lagoons.

The Hermitage of San Juan, built between the end of the 16th century and the beginning of the 17th century. Although the façade has been modified with respect to the original, the external side and the interior coffered ceiling of the building maintain their original structure. A hermitage of prayer and gratitude for the traveller.

It is close to the Huerta Asaura park and is an important place for the local community.

Small but nice park. Right in front we can find an old Asadaor, now closed due to the retirement of the owners, but with luck the very nice lady lets us in to see the garden, formerly a terrace with tables, it is worth it.

From the 14th or early 15th century. Built in three parts. The first part is composed of the presbytery, in Romanesque style, while the central nave is Gothic with a ribbed vault.
