The Petrified Dunes are the heart and soul of Snow Canyon State Park. You can wander widely across the Navajo Sandstone rocks that were once wind blown dunes. Be sure to bring plenty of water and a camera as you'll need both early and often.

Unfortunately, we didn't see any turtles. People told us that's quite rare.

A short walk from the car park to an impressive rocky area in brilliant white. Climbing around in it is fun and increases the photo opportunities.

You can access Quail Creek from this intersection. It's another State Park turned into a desert oasis like nearby Sand Hollow. The views created by the contrasting blue water and striking red cliffs are incredible and worth the short detour.

Along the paved Whiptail Trail, you can see these black, basaltic lava boulders that contrast wildly with the red sandstone formations in the background and the red sands along the ground.
