The Vârful La Om (or Piscul Baciului, also known as Shepherd's Peak) is, at 2238 m, the highest peak in the Piatra Craiului Mountains in the Romanian Southern Carpathians.
Way up from the cabana involves holding on to some ropes and isnt the easiest, but can be done without any special equipment when it’s dry. Way down - gotta watch out. When it’s wet… me I probs wouldn’t go
Very steep ascent with lots of scree and small climbing sections. Good footwear and ideally hiking poles recommended. Only for people with a head for heights. Allow enough time for the ascent and descent.
The ridge is not easy to walk and requires some experience with steep terrain. Also pay attention to the weather, as it may change quickly in the national park. We started from Cabana Curmătura.
The path there is a bit bumpy in places, but it's easily manageable, always along the rocks. It's a lovely place to take a break and admire the surrounding mountains.
