Hello. It was in the news that the lake will be emptied this fall of 2025 for the 50 years dam revision. Around end of febr 2026 the dam will be completly drained and the lake bed and bottom parts of the dam will be visible.

The Vidraru Dam (Romanian: Barajul Vidraru) is a dam in Argeș County in the historical region of Wallachia (Țara Românească) in Romania.

The Swirling Lake (or Lake Nucșoara) is a karst lake formed on gypsum, which is found in the commune of Nucșoara and is included in the area of the Măgura - Nucșoara nature reserve. Located at an altitude of 780 m, it is geographically located in the region of the subcarpathian mountains of Argeș. With an area of approx. 2.22 ha[5] and a maximum depth of 5 meters, the body of water was formed at the end of the 19th century on a sinkhole.[6]. After it was formed by dissolution, it underwent processes of suffusion and then subsidence.[3]

Lake Vidraru is a reservoir created in 1965 by the Vidraru Dam in Argeș County, on the Argeș River, for electricity production, irrigation and flood prevention. Also, the lake and adjacent facilities are used for recreation, tourism and sports.

An overwhelming view can be enjoyed from the dam down. the madness. A massive barrier holds and stores the water to the reservoir (Lacul Vidraru) which operates at the origin of a power plant to generate electricity. This resulted in tourism. Boat trips, fishing, bungee jumps from 166 m altitude are among the leisure activities. Prometheus statue as a symbol of electricity can also be visited there.

The lake is just below the last longer climb towards Negoiu. In sunshine it shines in beautiful colors.
