Private castle with a striking silhouette. Historic aristocratic estate in the heart of the Lone Valley with a long regional history.

Falkenstein Castle was the center of a domain called Falkenstein in the mid-12th century. The castle site consisted of an inner castle on the rock. The outer castle was rebuilt in the mid-15th century; parts of it still exist and belong to the Falkenstein domain. The castle complex was partially destroyed in the Thirty Years' War in 1634; further parts were demolished in 1740 and again in 1818. Today, a small part of this former fortress still stands. The first documentary evidence comes from the year 1307, when the Barons of Riedheim acquired the Kaltenburg in addition to their Stetten estate. This has been proven to have belonged to the Knights of Kaltenburg since 1240. The noble family of the Knights, Barons and Barons of Riedheim was, with brief interruptions, the local lord of the free knighthood of Stetten, including Lontal and Kaltenburg, until its incorporation into Bavaria in 1806 and into Württemberg in 1810. It can only be viewed from the outside as it is privately owned; still quite attractive.

The castle complex of the lords of Westerstetten was located on the small hill and was probably completely destroyed around 1525. Only some wall rubble and a small moat can be seen. There is no correct access route to the facility. In spring you can find numerous March beakers here and in the Burgtal in the direction of Westerstetten.
