Obermureck Castle sits perched on a picturesque cliff overlooking the Mur River, just 30 km from Maribor, right on the Slovenian-Austrian border. The castle is one of the five oldest surviving castles in Slovenia. It was first mentioned in 1145, and its first owners were Barons Burkard and Juta of Čmurek. From 1401 to 1931, the castle was owned by the Stubenberg family. Today, the castle houses numerous artifacts from a rich and diverse past, with particularly valuable traces of the Romanesque and Renaissance periods.

A super nice tour, lots of asphalt roads, but also gravel paths, partly along the Mur, great views, beautiful towns, good food, great lakes and ponds, a short ride on the Mur ferry (free), highly recommended
