The ruins of Benzigen Castle lie on a terrace north of Schwanden, which slopes steeply towards the Linth. The two-part complex consisted of a spacious outer bailey and a slightly higher, large tower made of megalithic masonry. A 16-meter-long section of the latter's wall still remains today. This was probably the residence of the Knights of Schwanden, who appear several times in documents in the 13th century.

The ruin is located on a ledge, some construction work is currently in progress. However, it offers a wonderful view of the valley and a barbecue area on the castle hill.
