The dam dams the River Homem into a reservoir. The dam and the associated reservoir are located on the edge of the Peneda-Gerês National Park. About 1 km southeast of the dam is the municipality of Campo do Gerês. The project to build the dam began in 1966. The construction was completed in 1972. In addition to generating electricity, the dam also serves as flood protection.

One of the most beautiful national parks. Surroundings very sparsely populated and not yet overcrowded with tourists. Great to discover by bike, hardly any traffic and good roads.

Easy to reach smaller bathing pump. Rather something for younger children. Still so deep that you can even swim a few strokes in it. You can park directly on the main road on the hard shoulder.

Beautiful reservoir with interesting vegetation around it. If you're already in the area anyway, you can do a little lap here.

You can only see the reservoir from here if you climb on one of the stones. There are much better vantage points on the lake.

Now in the nature reserve. The paths are quite overgrown, but attentive hikers do not miss it. fantastic.
