The Pinnacle is a high point along the Flat Top Trail just north of the actual summit of Flat Top. The nearby Cross Rock is another great viewpoint if you have the time to add a few minutes of walking to your hike.

Prepare yourself for STEEP uphill hiking for about 2 miles. There are two different viewing points once you've reached the top of this mountain. You should absolutely view both points. Wear very good hiking shoes with ankle support and a good grip. It would be a plus if they had a sturdy sole too. As said in the tip before, The views of the rolling landscapes below you are worth the whole effort. This is a strenuous hike though some people would consider this moderate. 😳

The summit of Harkening Hill rests at 3,364 feet and offers a few spotty views through the trees. Perhaps the most beautiful views on the mountain are of the trail, itself. On a clear day, you can look south and see the peak of Sharp Top Mountain.

There technically isn't a set "summit" on Flat Top Mountain, but there are a few rocky outcrops that offer viewpoints of the surrounding area and the other nearby Peaks of Otter. You can easily see Abbott Lake to the south and Bedford Reservoir to the east from the lookouts. There are a couple different ways to approach the mountain, and both require a fair bit of climbing and mileage.

Apple Orchard Mountain is the highest mountain in the county at 4,222 feet. The peak is situated in Jefferson National Forest and sits right on the Appalachian Trail. Even though it is named Apple Orchard Mountain, the peak actually doesn't boast a single apple; it gets its name from the trees on the hillside that resemble apple trees.

The view from the top is worth all the effort of the ascent.
