(Lower) Hancock Lake is a beautiful alpine lake just off the Continental Divide Trail. Together with Upper Hancock Lake, it's a great spot to take a break or spend the night. Both lakes are fishable and stocked with Brook Trout. Since the lakes are also accessible by OHV, there might be more people around.

A short spur trail leads down to Boss Lake Reservoir and to several pretty perfect campsites. We were able to fit eight tents. Boss Lake is home to Greenback Cutthroat Trout which you are allowed to catch, but you have to release them again.

Lake Ann is an amazing alpine lake just below Lake Ann Pass. It sits above treeline and there a just a few spots to pitch a tent that are kind of sheltered. You can pitch next to a small stream in a ditch or hike a little further along the south shore towards a rocky incline with some trees to find suitable spots to spend the night.

Alpine Lake in Chaffee County is a scenic lake set in a majestic valley bounded on both sides by a collection of 14,000-foot mountain peaks and scenic woodland. You will find this 29-acre lake along Chalk Creek Drive on the eastern side of St. Elmo Ghost Town. It is a veritable scenic feast for the eyes, so the effort to get here is worth it. It is simply a wonderful place to take a break. It is on a dirt road, so the trail to it is best suited for stout touring bikes with decent tires, such as a hardtail or a gravel bike.

At 11,500 feet elevation, Kroenke Lake is a popular hiking destination in the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness. The trail follows the basin floor while navigating back and forth across a creek on your way to the lake. This can be a pretty wet trail, but there are sporadic views along the way.

Ptarmigan Lake is a very popular alpine lake in San Isabel National Forest. Because the lake sits above 12,100 feet, it often stays snowed in and frozen until June or July. The main trailhead used to access the lake is located just off of Cottonwood Pass Road, making it a popular spot among locals and visitors.

At 11,523 feet, Hartenstein Lake is tucked away at the edge of treeline in a basin between Turner Peak (13,233 feet) and Mount Yale (14,196 feet). It stays snowy up here late into spring some seasons, and you can always plan for water crossings and muddy bits of trail. The lake is much less visited than the peaks in the area and offers a real wilderness feel. The trail approaching the lake is mostly runnable grades. The runnability of the trail really depends on how wet everything is.
