The back part of the loop is beautiful, but partly overgrown and partly covered with thorny bushes. If you don't like that, it's better to take the shortcut.

From this spot you get sweeping views over the coastline of the Strait of Gibraltar. This is a scenic place to sip some water, take some photos, and catch your breath as you hike around the area.

Large reservoir. However, very flat. Actually doesn't invite you to swim :-)

Quiet place.

Uli note note - old path is completely overgrown, you can still walk, but very tiring - tip: hike to the wonderful view of the dam wall, then turn around briefly and use the path with the arrow to go down
