A beautiful area to enjoy nature, with the Congosto lagoon, bathed by the Bañuelos River in the background.

It is located next to the town centre of Pozuelo de Calatrava. It is popularly known as the unexpected lagoon. If you pass by, it is a unique opportunity to enjoy the flora and fauna of the saltiest lagoon in the area.

After the rainy season is the best time to visit this place, since in times of drought it is difficult to see water. It can be accessed from Peralvillo or from Fernán Caballero and moving towards the south you can see the ruins of an old bridge. It can be accessed both by bicycle and on foot along a well-marked and fairly wide path, with some ups and downs and sections full of stones, but it is not difficult. Very nice place to take photos, both in the morning and at sunset.

The access road is dirt, with deep potholes, but driving at low speed you will not have difficulties moving. It is a natural area that, given its location, just a few kilometers from Ciudad Real, the Vicario reservoir is a great place to spend a good day. In times of rain I am sure that it offers good photographs to those who visit it.

A stop at Bar la Encantada, I recommend it. Small but cozy Café-Bar, good service and good prices, a good place to eat, or have a beer and recharge your batteries.

Heritage: Hermitage of San Marcos (Peralvillo): Small hermitage with a single nave of popular typology with a belfry and semicircular arch on the façade and rough cylindrical and prismatic buttresses on the sides. It was built in the 18th century in a simple and rural style, highlighting its large belfry crowned by a stork's nest.

The area offers, in addition to diverse landscapes and multiple geomorphologies, an important protected reserve for waterfowl located in one of the most important wetlands in the region (coot, cattle egret, great cormorant, red duck, among others). Likewise, its vegetation Eminently autochthonous, together with its fluvial cavities, its fields and mountains, it constitutes a surprising variety of natural resources.
