The Sierra de Alcaraz is part of the pre-Betic system, a subdivision of the Betic mountain ranges. The predominant vegetation includes reforested pine forests between 1,000 and 1,600 metres, and low scrub near the summit.
At the highest point of the calar, you find the geodesic vertex of Pico Argel at 1,699 meters. The endless panoramas you get from the top are second to none.
