Hotspot for bird watchers, from this hut you can quietly observe the many cormorants and see how they spread their wings to warm up when the sun peeps through.

If you're looking for a quirky and colorful attraction near the beach, head to the Strandjuttersmuseum (beachcombers museum) in Westduinpark, one of the largest nature reserves in The Hague. This museum is actually a small wooden hut decorated with all kinds of objects that have washed up on the shore, from fishing nets and buoys to dolls and shoes. The museum is run by One Jan, a friendly local who loves to share stories about his finds and the history of the park. You can also join him on a guided walk along the beach and learn how to spot treasures in the sand. The Strandjuttersmuseum is open on Wednesdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 16:00, and admission is free.

In the summer, approach the bird hide from the parking lot on the south side, that trail is better maintained.

The Aalkeet Buitenpolder connects to the Vlietlanden nature reserve. The grassland is managed in such a way that the area remains suitable for meadow birds. The polder has a raised water level, so that the bottom remains soft enough for black-tailed godwits and redshanks to get their food out of the ground with their beaks. In the Rijsplas you can see geese species, widgeon and teal from November to April. The coppice on the Rijskade on the northeast side forms a shelter and habitat for weasel and numerous insects.
