Ormtjernhytta is owned and operated by TTIF and has its own cabin management. The cabin is located by the water in a scenic setting, approximately 1 km from Route 21. Ormtjernhytta appears to be a very popular sports cabin. Tables and benches are available by the water and in the sun wall. The cabin has wheelchair access to the cabin itself and to the restrooms. There are marked hiking trails and a lit path in the area. There is a large parking lot on the main road (near the toll booth) and a large parking lot directly at the cabin. There is also a large parking lot in Krusseter (near the kiosk/beach) and a smaller one in Blæsemoen (Route 21). A beautiful circular trail of approximately 0.8 km leads around the lake. The start/finish is at the cabin. From mid-September to Easter, the hut is open every Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Food and drinks can be purchased at the hut. Weather permitting, the hut is also open during the Christmas and winter holidays. When possible, ice skating rinks are set up on the ice surface in winter. Young and old can enjoy themselves here in good weather. Skates in various sizes and ice skating penguins are available for rental at the hut during opening hours.

A beautifully landscaped path around Ormtjern, with a variety of trolls along the way. There are benches, barbecue areas, and a shelter. The circular trail is just under a kilometer long and suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.

The refuge area is very beautiful. The climb is not feasible with a loaded touring bike. I had to detach the bags and push the bike by hand.

Beautifully renovated hikers' hostel in the city center of Strömstad from the 19th century. Originally it was a bathhouse, with seaweed baths and massage rooms. You can cook for yourself in the spacious kitchen. Alternatively, there are a few restaurants in Strömstad that are also popular with Norwegians. I can only agree with Paul! The climb after a day's hike is really strenuous, but it's worth it. The place is very popular and you're very likely to meet hikers. A tip: at the beginning of the path there is a drinking water dispenser provided by local residents and you're welcome to help yourself. Unfortunately, the rainwater is not drinkable. We also spotted moose droppings in the immediate vicinity 🫎 😊

A difficult climb for cyclists with luggage, but it's worth it once you're at the top. Great view of Strömstad, rainwater is collected, firewood and grill

It's possible to get to the shelter with a fully loaded bike. It's pretty exhausting tho - lots of stones and roots on a pretty steep trail for 300m.
