The current castle is very recent. It was built in 1960 at the request of the owners, the Otreppe de Bouvette family, based on plans by architect Emile Godin. The previous castle was severely damaged in both world wars and fell into disrepair.

A castle existed in Villers as early as the 6th century. The neo-medieval castle of Orval was built in local stone according to plans by the architect Émile Godin at the request of Baron d'Otreppe. It was built on the site of the old castle which was originally the old home of the master of the forges. The castle was rented from 1860 to 1862 to Pierre Napoléon Bonaparte, the nephew of the French emperor. The main building is L-shaped on two levels, with a round tower to its right.

The Château d’Orval was built on the old foundations of an earlier castle near the largest monastery in the country, the Orval Abbey. The castle was originally the home of the abbot.
