According to the sources, the tower would be a remainder of a castle built by Richard-Heart-of-Lion, a tower of the enclosure of the city. Baron de Madaillan held the town of Sainte-Livrade in paréage with the king. Historians have more likely seen it as a fortified house built by a local lord near the city ramparts at the end of the 13th century or the beginning of the 14th century to participate in its defence. The site of Madaillan having passed to the Fossat d'Aiguillon family, Sainte-Livrade was part of their property, then of their heirs. During the Revolution, the tower became the property of the municipality, which turned it into a prison.

Two square towers are connected by curtain walls which contained a village. The square south-east tower had a staircase housed in a round turret, applied against the north facade. On the ground floor, to the south, a door in broken arch equipped with a portcullis, gave access to a vaulted room in broken barrel

This pretty town on the edge of the Lot has many curiosities, starting with its town hall which has a unique neo-Moorish architecture. The building is called Château Solar after the name of the family who transformed it. This impressive structure draws inspiration from both the Alhambra in Granada and the Mosque in Cordoba. A very beautiful fountain with spring water jets built in 1859 is also visible on the Place des Halles. This village is at the forefront of innovation since in 1999, the town built the first river port on the Lot. Castelmoron means "the castle of the Moors". This name refers of course to the castle Solar. The city has a beautiful beach close to the main bridge.

Foundations are from the 12th century , but is now in full reconstruction .

Castle is currently B&B, but can also be visited by appointment
