The Schloss Schartenfels restaurant is not a historic building. It was built in 1881 by Gottfried Anner from Baden on the Lägernfels as a vineyard cottage with a tower. Just one year later, he was granted permission to open a summer restaurant. In 1894 it was expanded into a castle-like complex. At a cost of CHF 45,000.00, Anner's property increased to 3 hectares, consisting of forest and rock, the castle park and the wine-growing region.
