Farm built in 1805 on a site where buildings already stood before the Revolution. Antoine Le Bel, Capitoul, buys the land which contains tar sands. A regionalist style prevails for each of the buildings. In the second half of the 19th century, the farm-castle and the oil exploitation experienced a period of great prosperity. An original and pioneering project, both an agricultural farm, the cradle of the study and exploitation of petroleum, the birthplace of agricultural chemistry, experimental agronomic station, the Château Le Bel farm is one of the last architectural testimonies. of an exceptional scientific and industrial Alsatian adventure which exceeds, by its implications and its consequences, the regional limits.
