An impressive property – it would need to have a function to make restoration worthwhile. Nevertheless, it's a shame to consider its current condition. Apart from the house at the entrance, which once housed a pizzeria, nothing has really been restored.

Parts of the old fortifications with the powder tower. Wissembourg (the monastery) has been on a border since the 7th century. Today the fortifications are in the middle of Europe.

Trimmich was the eastern outpost located in all directions of Weißenburg. There was also a mill there on the Lauter until German soldiers reduced the place to rubble in 1939. There is almost nothing left of either. But some foundation walls can be made out in the thicket. The better time to explore there extensively is winter, when there are no nettles. At this point you come to the castle grounds.

Farm built in 1805 on a site where buildings already stood before the Revolution. Antoine Le Bel, Capitoul, buys the land which contains tar sands. For more than a century, the Le Bel family developed the mine while residing in a farm castle rebuilt from 1805. In its current state, there is no building left prior to the 19th century. The old farm has a large square-plan house with adjoining accommodation; a half-timbered house which would be Achille Le Bel's former laboratory, built in 1813; a set of three agricultural buildings which were erected from 1821 and then extended between 1832 and 1835. A regionalist style prevails for each of the buildings. In the second half of the 19th century, the farm-castle and the oil exploitation experienced a period of great prosperity. An original and pioneering project, both an agricultural farm, the cradle of the study and exploitation of petroleum, the birthplace of agricultural chemistry, experimental agronomic station, the Château Le Bel farm is one of the last architectural testimonies. of an exceptional scientific and industrial Alsatian adventure which exceeds, by its implications and its consequences, the regional limits.

Nice view over the Lautertal near Weiler/Wissembourg. There are also picnic benches. Unfortunately, the road is close and the cars are noisy. Fortunately, the hiking trail does not run directly along the road.

The circular route around Wissembourg on the fortifications is worthwhile.
