Beautiful natural emerald lake.

Leisure center accessible free of charge and where it is possible to swim. Two restaurants on the banks and numerous shaded picnic spots.

The starting point of the hike is the campsite directly on the lake. In summer Aquapark at the lake for a fee. Otherwise no entrance fee for the lake.

This pretty little lake takes its name from the fact that its color changes throughout the day, depending on the sky, the light, and the weather. It can be turquoise blue as well as dark blue. It is surrounded by large blocks of rock, which makes it a very good picnic spot sheltered from the wind!

A nice and flat place to take a break. Either by going around the body of water or on the asphalt road. All at 900m altitude.

On the shores of the lake, the Napoleon refuge in Vars is one of the six eponymous shelters in the Hautes-Alpes. This building was built in 1856 under Napoleon III, thanks to a donation from Napoleon Bonaparte who bequeathed by will a sum of money to the provinces which had suffered the most from the wars. A guard and his family lived there all year round as "withdrawn from the world", with the pass closed from December 1 to May 15. The refuge will see the beginnings of mountain tourism and the development of the current resort of Claux.
