The Château de Bouligneux is a former fortified house, dating from the early 14th century and remodeled in the late 16th or early 17th century. Built during the 14th century, Bouligneux Castle is a perfectly preserved feudal structure. The building was constructed using red bricks (carron bricks) typical of Dombes.

Built between 1874 and 1878, Fort de Vancia is part of the second defensive belt of the city of Lyon. Designed by General Séré de Rivières, the 14 forts, including that of Vancia, served to protect the city from Prussian and Italian invasions. The secondary objective was to control the Lyon insurrections such as the revolt of the Canuts.

Bouligneux castle is a typical example of fortified houses built in the Dombes and Bugey regions in the 14th century. During the revolution it was almost demolished, but the local municipality saved it and used it as a farm. The fortified tower was a compromise, however, and it was reduced by one storey, hence the displaced shape of the tower's roof.
