The Barranca Army Reservoir, built in the 1950s in Navacerrada (Madrid), is located in the Barranca Valley, within the Upper Manzanares Basin Regional Park. It originally supplied water to a sanatorium. Today, surrounded by a valuable ecosystem, it is a place to enjoy nature and views of the Sierra de Guadarrama.

The Gato lagoon is an artificial wetland created to adapt a quarry located in the southeast of Moralzarzal, on the border with the municipality of Collado Villaba. In addition, the Gato lagoon is located on the border of the Cuenca Alta del Manzanares Regional Park and the Biosphere Reserve of the same name.

This reservoir, located on the Navacerrada River in the municipality of Navacerrada, has an interesting history. It was built in the 1950s to supply water to the Air Force Anti-Tuberculosis Sanatorium in La Barranca. After its closure, it was abandoned and, over the years, it has become a rich ecosystem that is home to species at risk of extinction such as the otter, various birds, mammals, fish and amphibians. The “Laguna del Gato” is a shallow, seasonal lagoon restored by the Community of Madrid within the Habitat Recovery Program for amphibians in the Community's Livestock Route Network. It is an artificial wetland resulting from the adaptation of an aggregate quarry intended for construction. This quarry was located southeast of the urban center of Moralzarzal right on the border with the municipality of Collado Villaba.
