The grotto was originally called Cova des Coloms because of the wild pigeons that lived there. When the village priest erected a statue of the Virgin Mary here in 1920, modeled on the famous Lourdes Grotto, increasing numbers of people came to this spot to ask the Blessed Virgin for healing. This seems to have had some effect, as those who were healed left thank-you notes in the rock niches and laid flowers in front of the statue. In 1942, Saint Bernadette, who had known Mary from earlier, also moved here.

I ran the tour counterclockwise 08/23. Maybe it wasn't a good idea :-) The descent through the barranco was very disgusting. slipped a number of times on the diss grass fields. cairns very difficult to see. loose rubble. I did around 120 tours in Tramuntana. this one was on the verge of "damn hard". 6:00h total time. tip: does it really run clockwise...

The cave is 40m underground. An absolute highlight for children. Bring flashlights and off you go exploring.

Unfortunately, the cave is no longer accessible (as of November 21). A well-locked gate blocks access. This is because some people were so stupid (and that's very nicely put) to vandalize and cause damage in the cave. 😭

"The Cave of the Dead". In the Cova de sa Cometa des Morts excavations in the middle of the 20th century uncovered a skeleton and remains of bones. The finds have been assigned to the 4th century BC. The skeleton is laid out in the museum of the Lluc Monastery in a glass sakophary.

Large cave entrance about 20m southeast of the small signpost, the cave initially descends at an angle, after 30m there is a short passage for crawling, then it goes on to about 60m into the mountain. Easily accessible with a torch and hiking boots
