A Symbol of Connection - The Stone Cross at Blutenburg Castle https://www.blutenburg.de/rundgang-und-geschichte/steinkreuz The Beginning of a Sculpture Park https://www.blutenburg.de/rundgang-und-geschichte/skulpturenpark The Spanish Stone Cross A Spanish cross was erected south of Blutenburg Castle in 1983, initially almost unnoticed by the local population. Visitors often inquired about the origin and meaning of this cross. In 2003, the story was finally explained, and we are happy to share this information with interested visitors on a dedicated page of our walking tour.

A highlight in many ways - great photo opportunity, even from afar through the open meadow "Am Durchblick" - nice stop in front of the castle by the pond without consumption or inside in the café - is on the Würmradweg-Nord between Pasing and Allach-Untermenzing in a north-south direction - east-west direction the castle is at the western end of the green belt "Durchblick" to Nymphenburg Palace and to the east to Langwieder See Where Munich cyclists like to ride, including insider tips. - link to the map: https://t1p.de/radlvorrangnetz - app "MunichWays":

“Each of these crosses can tell its own story and what prompted people to erect “their” cross at this point. (...) These wayside crosses were erected as visible signs and attract the attention of many people. The cross is a symbol of life. It stands as a sign of our Christian hope and wants to direct our gaze to Jesus Christ, who has overcome death (...). The cross is part of our life as it was in the life of Jesus. So I wish that many people … visit the crosses, whether as places of stillness and breathing space before God, whether as places for community gatherings, prayer and praise to God.” (Text source: Dean Rainald M. Ollig in: “Crossroads. Small sacred monuments as a sign of popular piety")

In the 12th century the gentlemen "de Ehstingen" are mentioned and probably owned Esting until the 14th century. Esting Castle is mentioned in 1568 as "nobilis domus" by Apian and was owned by the von Preysing family in the 16th century. The gatehouse was probably renewed in the 17th century, and the castle was renewed around 1698/1700 by the merchant Johannes Senser, the tenant of the state tobacco monopoly. Shortly afterwards, the castle was destroyed in the War of Spanish Succession in 1704 by the troops of the Duke of Marlborough. It was rebuilt by 1764. In the 18th / 19th In the 19th century, the castle district was walled. Around 1919 there was a Gothic extension. Gertraud's eldest brother Gottfried and his family lived at Esting Castle in the city of Olching near Munich. The place is an example of how Gertraud practices works of mercy.
