Great hiking trail, very warm (remember to bring plenty of water). Recommendation: Wear proper hiking boots. You'll be rewarded with a beautiful view.

This trail runs through the upper part of the Monachil River canyon, also known as the Los Cahorros Gorge. The view of the white roads winding through these arid mountains is spectacular. Also, if the day is clear, you can see the city of Granada and even the Alhambra.

An alternative road that avoids the Alto de Hazallanas, per la estreta vall de El Charcón. La carretera surt de la població de Güejar Sierra, passant per Maitena i que ressegueix el río Genil. A posteriori, s'enfila cap a la carretera de las Sabinas fins a Pradollano.

It is a great experience to walk over the long suspension bridge... It is not very high above the stream, you should be free from giddiness :-) Under the bridge is a small place to take a break by the creek, the descent is short and easy.

Very nice tour always along the Monachil. You hike over several suspension bridges. Sometimes you have to walk along the river on your knees or by handholds. Easy to handle even on hot days.

We start the route by leaving the car in the Barranco de San Juan car park. Right in front of the starting point we will find a restaurant, perfect for having a drink and getting some energy before leaving or to replenish it on the way back. The route is designed to be completed in 3 days: we will spend the first night in Cueva Secreta and the second, in the Laguna de la Mosca. Therefore, we will have to bring everything we will need during those days. However, the climb is demanding, so it is best not to load up too much. Note: During the route, we will pass by several rivers where we can carry water if we have a bottle with a filter or water purification tablets.

This Cahorros de Monachil route began in the town of Monachil, about 14 kilometers from Granada, within the Sierra Nevada Natural Park.
