8월 28, 2025, Yu Garden (Yuyuan Garden)
A hidden gem in the heart of the bustling city, Yu Garden is a masterpiece of classical Chinese garden architecture, created in the Ming Dynasty (1559). With graceful pavilions, winding paths, ponds teeming with koi, and elaborate rockeries, this garden offers an oasis of tranquility and refinement. Every corner reveals a new view—a philosophy of "landscape with every step."

Tianzifang (田子坊) is an old neighborhood that gives you a feel of what life in the small alleys could have been like. I highly recommend visiting this place on an afternoon when it is busy with people. And a good place to buy some souvenirs, as they will then come with a story how you lost your sense of direction in this maze ;-)

Yu Garden is believed to have been built in the Ming Dynasty, more than 400 years ago. The exquisite layout, beautiful scenery, and the artistic style of the garden architecture have made the garden one of the highlights of Shanghai. 12월 28, 2022, Jing'an Temple
Jing'An Temple is a busy buddhist temple in downtown Shanghai. Its history dates back approx. 800 years. It was originally located on the Wusong River (Suzhou Creek) and was relocated to its current location in the early 1200s. It burned down in 1972. Rebuild was started in 1984 and completed in 1990. It is a historic temple, but (almost) everything you see is new. But it does impress with its constrast of historic architecture surrounded by the high rises and shopping malls.

The garden was built as early as the Ming Dynasty (1559-1577). It shows the Chinese art of gardening. It's very crowded on weekends. Anyone in Shanghai should pay a visit to the garden.

12월 15, 2019, Jing'an Temple
The temple was first built in 247 AD in the Wu Kingdom during the Three Kingdoms period of ancient China. Originally located beside the Suzhou Creek, it was relocated to its current site in 1216 during the Song Dynasty. The current temple was rebuilt in the Qing Dynasty but, during the Cultural Revolution, the temple was converted into a plastic factory. In 1983, it was returned to its original purpose and renovated with the Jing'An Pagoda completed in 2010. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jing%27an_Temple)

12월 15, 2019, Yu Garden (Yuyuan Garden)
Yu Garden was first built in 1559 during the Ming Dynasty by Pan Yunduan as a comfort for his father, the minister Pan En, in his old age. Pan Yunduan began the project after failing one of the imperial exams, but his appointment as governor of Sichuan postponed construction for nearly twenty years until 1577. The garden was the largest and most prestigious of its era in Shanghai, but eventually its expense helped ruin the Pans.[8] The garden was inherited by Zhang Zhaolin, Pan Yunduan's granddaughter's husband, and then passed to different owners. A section was briefly organised by Zhang Shengqu as the "Academy of Purity and Harmony" (清和书院, Qīng-Hé Shūyuàn) and the Ling Yuan (灵苑, Líng Yuàn, lit. "Spirit Park"), today's East Garden, was purchased by a group of local leaders in 1709. A group of merchants renovated the increasingly decrepit grounds in 1760 and in 1780 the West Garden was opened to the general public.[3] The gardens suffered damage numerous times during the 19th century. During the First Opium War, the British army used the Huxinting Teahouse as a base of operations for several days in 1842. During the Taiping Rebellion, the Small Swords Society ran its headquarters in the Dianchun Hall; by the time Qing troops recovered the garden, the original structures had nearly all been destroyed. They were damaged again by the Japanese in 1942 before being repaired by Liangshun Han (Rockery Han[9]) appointed by the Shanghai government from 1956 to 1961. They were opened to the public in 1961 and declared a national monument in 1982.[3] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yu_Garden)

Tianzifang is a tourist shopping and cafe area in Shanghai in the Old French Quarter. Unlike the better known Xintiandi area nearby, the area retains an “organic and original” feel because the area hasn’t been markedly reconstructed in recent years. Instead you’ll see buildings, alleys and streets of the old French Quarter with later Chinese additions piled on. In an effort to stave off redevelopment, in the middle of the last decade, artists, business owners, and residents in the area banded together and preserved the original architecture. Though it is still a Chinese residential area, it has become famous as a “rabbit warren” of arts and crafts shops, and less-expensive less-expensive restaurants, bars, and cafes. Thousands of Chinese still live in the apartments above the shops. For many tourists and expats in Shanghai it is a favorite place to go. Prices are high compared to other places in Shanghai since it has become a tourist attraction, but they find the Chinese residential atmosphere and the old-style buildings, narrow alleys, and less touristy atmosphere fascinating.
