Between Leira and Fagernes there are two alternatives - the old road on the upside of the E16 and the pedestrian and cycling path "Valdresbanevegen" along the lakeshore. We recommend the latter. It is called Valdresbanevegen after the old rail road. The tracks have been removed, the path has been sealed and is now a popular walking and cycling path.

For me it is most beautiful in autumn or winter because of the colors. Connecting road from Hemsedal via Lykkja to Valdres. After Lykkja there is a toll road (2023), but it is worth it for the panoramic view.

The view from Gravolen is phenomenal and worth the hardship of the climb.

If you follow the marked route to the Gravolen, you will pass countless idyllic mountain lakes. There are carpets of cotton grass and the occasional cloudberry.

These small lakes are just too nice to just walk by. Take a break or a picture and enjoy the view.

From this hilltop you have a fantastic view on the Vinstre lake several meter down. You can decide if you want to climb all the way down or just enjoy the view from up here.
