The ascent and descent each take a good 2 hours. You should definitely have sturdy shoes and rainwear with you. There is WiFi at the parking lot ;-) and you can buy food and find a toilet.
Small town with a managed DNT tourist hut, where you can spend the night very well. Food is delicious too. There is breakfast, lunch and dinner. Ferry should be booked in advance. It usually runs twice a day.
The detour to the vantage point is worth it! From here you have an amazing view of the fjord and across to the steep edge. There is also less going on here than at Kjeragbolten.
