An interesting ring from both a naturalistic and landscape point of view, one of the best in the southern Apuan Alps

Super nice stalactite cave. The short, one-hour lap is definitely worth it, unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to do the two additional laps yet. Still on the wish list.

The Grotta del Vento is located in the center of the Natural Park of the Apuan Alps, under Mount Pania Secca in the municipality of Fabbriche di Vergemoli, in the province of Lucca (Tuscany). It is one of the most complete tourist caves in Europe. It has three tourist routes lasting 1, 2, or 3 hours and two adventure routes. The first itinerary (lasting one hour) runs through galleries characterized by the great abundance of concretions all "alive" and of different colors. The second itinerary (lasting 2 hours) includes the previous route and continues descending 75 meters until it reaches the deepest part of the cave which is crossed by a small underground stream. The third itinerary (lasting 3 hours) includes the first two routes and involves the ascent of a perfectly vertical shaft about 90 meters high. As an alternative to the normal tourist itineraries, two adventure trails have been set up for lovers of strong sensations.

The Hermitage of Calomini is a suggestive architectural complex located at the base of a large overhanging wall about 70 meters high, it is embedded for 15 meters inside the rock. The Hermitage of Calomini is located along the road to Vergemoli, above the inhabited by Gallicano. The church of the hermitage was built close to the facade of the mountain, or rather more than half, with the sacristy and almost the entire convent, remains inside an excavation made inside the mountain, with the use of a single chisel. The top of this excavation ends in a very wide whitish vault. Excavated in the bare rock, this hermitage peeps out among the very high rocks of the mountain which houses the sacristy of the church and a large part of the convent. eighteenth-century, you enter the sacristy, the original nucleus of the place of worship, which was furnished in 600 with splendid sculpted furniture. From here you continue into the old kitchen and into the cells of the friars, also excavated like the sacristy

Amphibian as rare as it is fascinating. Do not touch them because the difference in body temperature causes them skin burns

The Hermitage of Calomini is an ancient place of worship located in Garfagnana, along the road that leads to the town of Vergemoli, above Gallicano. The suggestive architectural complex is located at the base of a large overhanging wall and according to a tradition it was built right in the place where a jet of pure water gushed from the rocks and the image of the Madonna was revealed to a shepherdess of Calomini. The oldest part is the sacristy, carved into the rock with chisels presumably before the year 1000, which was probably the original nucleus of the place of worship.

From the Apuan Excursions website. Locally Buca dell’Omo Salvatico. It is located in the municipality of Stazzema, ten minutes from the Del Freo refuge, along path 128 for Puntato and Col di Favilla, on the left of the Canale delle Verghe. The entrance is located at 1150 meters, the depth is 281 meters and the total development is about 1400. The cave has been known to the valley people since time immemorial and they had created scary legends about it. The first descent, of a few tens of meters, dates back to 1912, a subsequent one in 1923 went further, but only in the period 1929-1930 did an expedition of the GSF (Florentine speleological group) go through the entire cave. The entrance is an imposing sinkhole in which a small stream of water that descends from the Corchia is lost, the cave consists of a series of tunnels and wells. The name derives from a very widespread figure in local folklore and in general in the world. Hairy, monstrous, wild and cave dweller, homo selvaticus is a myth that was born with humanity: it is the ancestral past that cannot be forgotten. It is looked at on the one hand with nostalgia for what has been lost and on the other with contempt and a sense of superiority for the civilization we think we have acquired. Therefore he is considered with a mixture of fear and admiration and he himself acquires both positive and negative values in the collective imagination. Local legends say he taught shepherds how to use milk to make cheese and ricotta, but then annoyed by their further requests if he went back to his caves. However, other versions considered him as a dangerous being who roamed the woods from which he came out to kidnap girls and was dedicated to bloody and pagan rites.

A few meters from the Tambura pass, proceeding on the CAI 148 path towards the summit, a small hole opens up on the right. It is an artificial cavity, with concrete walls, it is not one of the numerous karst caves that characterize this area. Perhaps it was an ancient deposit, or a small santabarbara for quarrying activities. If you dare to enter, however, you will not be disappointed: inside there is a small colony of Geotritons! Do not disturb them, enter respectfully and do not try to handle them, please! Geotritons are small amphibians that are almost exclusively widespread in Italy. They live in underground environments (where they reproduce) and come out only at night. They feed on insects or small invertebrates.
