Casa del Romano is a locality located in the municipality of Fascia. The name of the hamlet and of the inn that was built there derives from a legend: a boy named Stevanin moved to Rome for work and from that moment the inhabitants of his village began to call him "The Roman". In the capital he fell in love with a girl and promised her that if she married him they would move to Sottoripa. The girl, thinking that Stevanin was referring to the Genoese district of Sottoripa, accepted his proposal. After the marriage, however, "Il Romano" took her to Sottoripa di Montebruno ”. The girl felt deceived and with the passing of the days she was more and more sad, until one day she said: "Stevanin you deceived me, but rather than staying here I want to go and live on the highest mountain you can see from here". "The Roman" satisfied him: on that mountain he built a house and then a tavern that is still called "the Roman House" today.

It is an isolated refuge, which has always been a stopping place for travelers. It is located in a panoramic position on a meadow slope where daffodils bloom in spring. Its name is linked to a story that sees an inhabitant of Sottoripa di Montebruno as the protagonist. Stevanin Biggi, who emigrated to the Maremma towards Rome, falls in love with a woman already promised at the beginning of the 19th century. The story ended in stab wounds and the two had to flee the Pope's justice. The man told the young woman that he would take her to live in Genoa in Sottoripa and she followed him. However, when she found herself living among the poor houses, the girl refused to stay there and said she would rather have moved to the highest mountain that could be seen. Thus was born the Casa del Romano which was always cared for by the Biggi family and its descendants. It was once open from spring to autumn and guaranteed shelter for animals all year round. Then it was renovated and today it is a welcoming hotel restaurant managed by Luigia Vicenzina Varni (Tel. +39 010 95946). The Feast of Mother Earth has been held on these meadows since 2007. Every first weekend of July the Hunkapi association of Genoa organizes this event with and for Native Americans.

From there you have a wonderful view back to the Trebbiatal, to the small villages on the slopes and the green hills around. All driveways up here are extremely low traffic and scenic delights.
