Palazzo Pretorio, the most representative monument of Certaldo, was the ancient residence of the Alberti counts, built around the end of the 12th century on the ruins of the ancient houses of this family. On the facade and inside the palace there are numerous coats of arms, each of which represents the effigy of the family of each Vicar who governed and lived here. Already in the dominions of the Acciaioli family and now owned by the Posarelli family, the castle of Montegufoni is known because, during the bombings suffered by Florence in the Second World War, some works of art were hidden there, including the Adoration of the Magi of Ghirlandaio and Botticelli's Spring.

San Gimignano is a must-see if you're in the area. A small historical town situated on a hilltop. Very nice streets with many stylish and high-quality shops and restaurants. Very clean and well worth seeing, especially because of its many high turrets and narrow streets. The town has a special charm and is bearable even at high temperatures, as there are many shady alleys and places…

The best time to visit San Gimmiano is when the sky is slightly cloudy and the sun's rays are still breaking through. Late afternoon. The sunset lets the city of medieval towers (“family towers”) magically appear in a special light. On the fortress wall you have a wonderful view of the Tuscan landscape. Like in the photo book. Splendid. That's where the best photos and impressions are. Inside the fortress is a beautifully landscaped park. Very idyllic. Here you can take a break and let your thoughts wander. In the evening, many small restaurants invite you to a cozy end. The Piazza Duomo is particularly beautiful, where you can drink great Lambrusco. Conclusion. San Gimmiano should not be missing on a Tuscany tour. Beautiful old town. There are a number of free parking spaces outside of the city. Walking time approx. 20-25 minutes. Inside chargeable. I've been there four times and have always been fascinated by the city.
