The landscape in this area of Tuscany is very attractive. But one rarely finds a shady path that leads well along a stream, the Agliena. In addition, the regulated course of the stream is interesting, as barrages, the Briglie, repeatedly form small waterfalls and subsequent ponds that are teeming with life. These barrages are said to go back to Leonardo da Vinci. The season in which you walk this section of the route is also crucial. I've been there in August 2021, but since it's quite dry in summer, there were only a few small pools. But now in May you can hear the splashing of the small waterfalls and the croaking of the frogs and flowers like the purple orchid and the star of Bethlehem are growing.

The “Pozzo Sfondato”, a Jurassic well on the volcanic rocks of the Evola River; a wild place where the river flowing over the rocks forms small waterfalls. Here over time, the water has dug into the rock some real wells or holes where the people of Montaione (and not only) come to cool off on hot summer days. The spot is easily accessible thanks to a dense network of nature trails in the Municipality of Montaione. Near the area you can still see the ruins of the old Molinuzzo delle Pozzole, but above all an old brick bridge that, in addition to the passage of goods, animals and people, was used to cross the "millstone" of the Molino delle Pozzole, located at valley at a distance of about 300 meters. A wonderful and unique place: nature that is combined with history, where it is possible to understand a glimpse of the local economy of the time thanks to the numerous mills along the river. A magical place for those who love bathing rivers and trekking itineraries.

Small waterfall formed by the Egola stream. The name Pozzo Sfondato derives from the fact that this waterfalls have formed pools whose depth is not known and in which it is possible to swim in summer. Higlight not easy to reach the best route is from via Ribaldi.

The trail is visible on the map until the geysir. Then just follow the river when dry. Later you will see a path that is marked aside the river. It is a nice hidden valley and it ends at a cave with waterfall dependant on water level. Nice shadow on hot tuscany summer days - and a bit of adventure.
