The Grotta del Gelo, on the northern side of Etna at 2,030 meters above sea level, is the southernmost glacier in Europe, known for its perennial ice maintained by unique climatic conditions.
The refuge is managed by the forestry and is in excellent condition. In the outdoor space there is a woodshed and a barbecue area. In front of the refuge there is the Palombe cave.
It is a lava flow cave, access to which is possible from the collapsed vault. It was discovered in 2000. I left the bike on the path and continued on foot
