The fortified complex represents one of the best-preserved examples of Lower Medieval military architecture in the province of Brescia. The Oldofredi Castle is one of the oldest and best preserved in the Brescia area. It stands on an area inhabited since Roman times and takes its name from a noble family from Iseo. It houses some rooms, can be reserved for events, contains a restaurant, the municipal library, some cultural associations and, in the former church of San Marco, the civic hall and the War Museum.

The castle of Rocca Martinengo, dating back to the fourteenth century, is one of the most characteristic monuments of Montisola. It is not located on the highest point of the island because it is already occupied by the Ceriola Sanctuary. It rises, in fact, above the Gulf of Sensole, in front of Tavernola in Bergamo: from this position it was possible to control the western shores of the lake from north to south.
