The gullies near Ciagnano are an unmissable natural wonder. These unique geological phenomena with deep gorges and clay formations offer an impressive sight.

The landscape is extremely suggestive and the descent is relatively easy, even if in the rain it can create dangerous furrows

The Farneto area ... is today best known for the cave that bears the same name: it was discovered in 1871 by Francesco Orsoni, who began the first, important archaeological research. In the 1960s Luigi Fantini, in a natural shelter created by a protruding layer, found some burials attributable to the Copper Age (the finds are exhibited at the Archaeological Museum of Bologna). Shaken by quarry work, the entire outcrop and the cave remained inaccessible for years due to a landslide that blocked the entrance, until the implementation of a recovery and safety intervention that finally allowed its redevelopment and reopening to the public in 2008. One of my favourites

The Grotta del Farneto is one of the most well-known and important prehistoric settlements in the Bolognese area. It can only be visited with a guided tour ( http://www.parks.it/parco.gessi.bolognesi/man.php ) In any case, it is worth a visit (even if it is closed ). The fresh air that comes out of it provides a bit of relief from the summer heat.

Epic and almost lunar landscapes. A few hundred meters from the "civilization". It can be reached from the educational farm “la Dulcamara” with a fast descent with several furrows and roots. At the end of the part immersed in the vegetation you reach the gully. Stop and enjoy the landscape. Going down the part of the gully you reach the lowest point of the path that crosses a stream. Keep left and walk along the lower part of the gully. A final climb will take you on the road to San Andrea

These gullies are visible from via del Pilastrino which you can reach from via Piombarola if you come from Castel de Britti or by taking via del Pilastrino near the Dulcamara or coming from the Vigne path that starts near Mercatale
