The origin of Salle dates back to the end of the 10th century, the village was originally built in an active and extremely dangerous seismic place (today this place is called Salle Vecchia). For 1,000 years, earthquakes caused damage there, and in 1915, as a result of the earthquake in Avezzano and the subsequent removal of the earth, parts of Salle, according to sources, simply disappeared. Established with regional law of 1998, the reserve embraces a territory rich in naturalistic emergencies.
