산타 로마나 은둔처는 산트 오레스테 술 몬테 소라테에 있으며, 몬테 소라테의 북동쪽 경사면에 있는 동굴 안에 조각된 암석 교회로, 숲이 우거지고 매우 인상적인 환경에 있습니다. 전승에 따르면 1218년에 봉헌되었다고 하지만, 이 장소는 기독교 이전의 숭배와도 관련이 있을 수 있는 더 오래된 기원을 가진 것으로 보입니다. 이 유적지에는 오늘날 보이는 것보다 은둔처가 더 넓었음을 보여주는 벽과 폐허의 흔적이 보존되어 있으며, 동굴의 습한 벽에는 프레스코화도 볼 수 있습니다. 안쪽에는 바위에서 내려오는 물을 모으는 대리석 욕조도 있는데, 전통적으로 젖이 나오지 않는 여성들이 신앙심으로 사용했습니다.

The nature reserve extends over about a thousand hectares between the Tiber Valley and the Cornicolani Mountains, in the Roman Sabina. The landscape is hilly, with pasture areas, crops and fragments of woods, remnants of the original forests. The area is known for its botanical value and for karst phenomena such as caves and sinkholes, including the Pozzo del Merro, one of the deepest in the world. The reserve also preserves historical evidence, from prehistory to the Middle Ages.

The Pozzo del Merro is a karst sinkhole located in the countryside north of Rome, between the Cornicolani Mountains in Macchia del Barco and Macchia di Gattaceca, in the municipality of Sant'Angelo Romano. According to initial studies by the University of Tor Vergata, the cavity is 392 meters deep, which is the maximum limit the measurements have reached. The probes launched since its discovery have not reached bottom, and the studies continue. This sinkhole has always been known to the locals. The Meri del Soratte are wells (three in total) that are connected to each other. Already known in the times of Pliny the Elder, these wells, according to him, are the gateway to the Kingdom of the Underworld.
