Nice hike. Not very long and not really very demanding, but some parts of the path are quite steep. The path is definitely not suitable for strollers.

The view of the Orte river from the Salle bridge is spectacular

The origin of Salle dates back to the end of the 10th century, the village was originally built in an active and extremely dangerous seismic place (today this place is called Salle Vecchia). For 1,000 years, earthquakes caused damage there, and in 1915, as a result of the earthquake in Avezzano and the subsequent removal of the earth, parts of Salle, according to sources, simply disappeared. After the earthquake in Abruzzo with the epicenter in Maiella in 1933 (amplitude 6 on the Richter scale), the city was moved to another location (almost 100 meters lower above sea level than where the Salle Vecchia was located). This new place is today's Salle.

Salle, a sleepy town, as if forgotten by time, is located at an altitude of 470 m above sea level, in a panoramic position at the foot of the Morrone Massif. It is famous for its bridge over the phenomenal canyon of the Orta River and for its suggestive panorama of the peaks of the Central Apennines. The village is part of the Maiella National Park and many cycling and hiking trails in the region lead through it.

The grandeur of the Orfento Valley can be fully perceived along this path, with incredible passages that wind along the edge of the valley, offering breathtaking views. Once you reach the bridge, the crystal clear water of the Orfento almost touches your shoes, accompanying you to the end of the itinerary, where you dive into the deepest part of the gorge.
