Torre Colimena (Salina dei Monaci) is a seaside hamlet in the municipality of Manduria, not far from Torre Lapillo. It is a protected nature reserve and is a place not affected by mass tourism and for this reason its landscape is almost uncontaminated: a place rich in natural species, such as flamingos and various types of birds. A quiet place, far from crowded and noisy beaches, an oasis of peace. Once you arrive under the tower, turn left until you find the interrupted road, park and continue on foot.

The Chidro River is a stream that travels about 10 km underground, and then 500 meters from the Ionian Sea comes to the surface through a spring called a "crater", located within the Chidro River Mouth Nature Reserve. At the mouth, three lakes are created which offer a suggestive scenery and an unmissable tourist destination.

This short stretch of unpaved and sometimes sandy road first crosses the Salina dei Monaci Nature Reserve, where it is possible to see a group of resident flamingos, then the Palude di Conte nature reserve where you cycle through dense Mediterranean scrub alongside white sandy beaches and crystal clear water. Be careful after heavy rain in some stretches the bottom can be slippery.

Suitable for mtb or gravel

A reservoir never used, built and abandoned like all Italian things. It has now become a lake surrounded by vegetation. Presence of fish and marine animals such as frogs. It is easy to find birds of various kinds during migration periods.

Recommended for a walk with the family, to enjoy fantastic sunsets and clean air. Many people use the road that runs through the reservoir for sporting activities, although unfortunately the maintenance of the roads is very poor, there are several holes in the path, especially dangerous for those who practice cycling or motorcycles at night. It is possible to go down to the shore of the reservoir.
