There are well-developed hiking and cycling trails around the dam with beautiful views of the reservoir and the surrounding landscape of the Ore Mountains.

The stone pond is located along the course of the Steinbach in the Massenei (shown in some maps under the name Schäfereiteich ). A marked hiking trail and a bridle path run past the pond, another hiking trail leads around the pond. The shore is densely overgrown with cattails in places. The white water lily occurs on the stone pond. In the middle of the lake is a small island that is used as a breeding ground by various species of birds.
