The Berkheide and Meijendel dune areas are home to an enormous diversity of plant and animal species due to the varied vegetation, moisture content, and lime content. This includes rare plants and herbs, as many as 250 bird species, a huge variety of insects, and even the sand lizard and the natterjack toad.

Lovely walking area and cycling here sometimes, but certainly not in the weekend and certainly not when it is beach weather. The quiet paths are fine but access roads are far from nice. Also recommended to go in the fall!

Beautiful walk through the Dunea water catchment area. Admission is not free but for 2 euros per person you can buy a day ticket. Definitely worth the cost.

Meijendel is beautiful, but also busy, especially on weekends. That is why the adjacent Kijfhoek/Bierlap is highly recommended, it is always very quiet there. You have to pay for it, but then you also have something.
