In April 1884, the canton of Aargau and in May 1895 the Grand Duchy of Baden granted the power plant operators at the time, now Energiedienst AG, the necessary concessions to operate a hydroelectric power plant on the Upper Rhine. This had a term of 90 years starting in 1898. In December 1989, the Swiss Federal Council and the Freiburg Regional Council approved new concessions for a further 80 years of power plant operation. One requirement stipulated that a new power plant with higher electricity production be built. Energiedienst began planning a hydroelectric power plant with an output of 100 megawatts. That is four times the output. Construction of the hydroelectric power plant in Rheinfelden began in the summer of 2003. The new dam was built by 2007. This was followed by the construction of the engine house. Electricity was produced for the first time in 2010. The official inauguration took place in 2011. With an annual production of 600 million kilowatt hours, the Rheinfelden hydroelectric power plant now supplies green electricity to around 170,000 households. This saves the environment around 300 million kilograms of carbon dioxide. In order to preserve the natural river landscape, Energiedienst also invested in ecological compensation measures. This singletrack is nice to go down. Upstairs and in the middle it has a few steps. Experienced bikers do not scare this. You can also start this trail. But it needs strong legs, or e-support.

This forest path offers everything we bikers like. It is easy to drive on and not too steep. And the Talbach has partially washed out a real gorge. I love biking through ravines like this. In midsummer it is pleasantly cool there. Just a great trail.
