The Seaman's Hut was first built in 1929 in memory of skier Laurie Seaman, who passed in a blizzard one year before. The stone hut was built as an emergency shelter for skiers and hikers caught in bad weather on the mountain. Today, the hut is open year-round as a safe haven and historical point of interest while exploring Australia's highest alpine terrain. There is also a modern pit toilet.

This junction marks the turnoff from the Razorback Track to the main camping and shelter area below Mount Feathertop. The nearby Federation Hut provides a modern emergency day use and overnight refuge, and is a popular base for summit attempts, with tent sites scattered across the surrounding alpine flats (no fee).

Michell Hut is a small emergency shelter located on Mount Bogong’s exposed summit plateau, providing shelter for walkers in severe alpine conditions. This simple metal hut sits near the junction of several routes, including approaches from Staircase Spur and Eskdale Spur, making it a key navigation point in poor weather. While not intended for overnight stays except in emergencies, it offers essential protection from the mountain’s frequent wind, snow, and sudden weather changes.

Historic hut and toilet

There’s a small creek nearby, just a small bush trail left from the front door.

Beautiful little secluded camp spot... though don't be surprised if you're being watched by the local 'Roos in the middle of the night or while you eat your breakie.

Horse Gully Hut camping area - great camping spot, with a toilet. Make sure you fill up at the closest river crossing as it can be a bit of a hike to get water once at the hut - unless you’re happy to use tank water (treat first).
