The old stone lighthouse sits on the highest part of the island peninsula of the Old Fort, looking out over the Gulf of Kerkyra to the North and the Bay of Garitsa to the South. The lighthouse was built by the British in 1822, when they were in control of the island to guide shipping in the area. If you are physically able, there is a fairly steep trail you can hike up to reach the lighthouse, but the tower itself is closed. There is a plaza-like area at the base of the lighthouse that you walk around on and get some great views and pictures of the city and ocean.

Once you reach the top of the old fortress, you have a fantastic view. It is considered the oldest lighthouse of its kind still in operation, as well as a large steel cross.
